One of the goals of the SATIE project is to have a holistic cyber-physical view of airport security. Several systems are involved in this, and all of them must be able to communicate and understand each other – this implies an agreement regarding the contents of the exchanged messages. Ontologies, as formal conceptualizations of domains, can be used to make this agreement explicit and compulsory. The Airport Interoperability Integrated Ontology (ASIIO) was developed during Work Package 4 of the SATIE project with the explicit aim of formalizing communications between the heterogeneous systems involved, such that these could be easily exchanged and understood between all parties. ASIIO has been made public and can be downloaded through its specification page.
